Joanna Ewart-James

Executive Director

Joanna drives forward our work building a strong and engaged global movement of modern day abolitionists, and ensuring they best help our partners secure change. She joined us from Anti-Slavery International where she led business engagement. There she created an interactive, educational website on products of slavery, established the Staff Wanted Initiative, and successfully lobbied for the adoption of anti-slavery laws. Joanna is a contributing author to a book on precarious work in the globalized economy and a forthcoming handbook on contemporary slavery. Joanna has also worked in the UK Foreign Office, academia, and philanthropy, managing multi-million dollar budgets to support human rights organizations globally. Joanna holds an MA in human rights.
